Illuminate PatientView Use Cases

Challenge

While PACS systems can provide the ability to automate viewing relevant prior imaging studies, this is only based on procedure types. One radiologist estimates that it can take up to 7 minutes just to find a prior study with the required information. This can take even longer if the physician needs to view information from the patient record in the EMR.

Solution

Using Illuminate’s Patient View, all relevant prior studies and clinical history is identified as soon as radiologists begin reading a new study and is displayed discreetly in the Mini Mode screen. With a single click, radiologists can view the prior images for comparison or read the original report- as well as view AND search additional patient information from pathology reports, lab results and clinical notes.

Challenge

Although the PACS provides private folders for each radiologist to capture individual patient cases, the process of tracking follow-up exams for these patients takes more than half an hour each morning to accomplish.

Solution

‍Radiologists use Illuminate’s Radiology Exam Follow-up Alert to identify and track all patients where a specific follow-up exam has been recommended, including establishing a time of completion parameter.Once the follow-up exam is completed, Illuminate instantly notifies the radiologist in the notifications center and if desired, by email, that the study and image are ready to be viewed.If the follow-up exam is not completed within the pre-set time parameter, the radiologist receives an overdue notification.

Challenge

Radiologists at one hospital have a folder in their PACS where they place exams that have imaging issues they want to discuss with the clinical administrator. Filling the folder is easy; sorting through the folder and communicating the concerns is a bit more complicated.‍

Solution

‍Using Illuminate Bookmarks, radiologists can bookmark each of the inferior images with the tag words “tech QA”. Along with the tag, they also write a brief memo outlining the problem.

The clinical administrator checks the bookmarks for the “tech QA” tag on new exams and forwards these exams on to the manager of the technician responsible for taking the images.

Managers meet with technicians to discuss ways to improve image quality.‍
